Dawn of a New Era

I think we are at the dawn of a new era. Not because of the rise of China or global warming (which make quite a change,  I do admit) but because our way of thinking is going to change. There are two things which will shape our thinking and behavior in the future: the I call 80/20 principle and the consciousness of emotions. I'm quite an amateur in both of these, but I find them too amazing to neglect.
The old model of thinking which is prevalent since the 17th century is linear and fully rational.  Three- four hundred years ago it was quite a big step compared to the previous less rational way of thinking but it's time for an upgrade. Linear means that we subconsciously assume that if we put more effort in something than we get more results. That is true most of the time but not always. Some activities bring more and some less, so we should concentrate on those which bring more. Sounds logical, but my experience shows that it's not the case most of the time. We lose time on superfluous meetings, non important functions, complicated and resource consuming processes.  If we were really 80/20 conscious I don't think there wouldn’t be a large market of methods, like Lean Six Sigma, Balanced Scorecards, Business Process Reengineering, Theory of Constraints ... etc. These are very useful but their experts are a bit like ancient priests who could tell a lot of information useful or even essential (e.g. the time to sow or harvest) but it was like of magic for ordinary people.
Now we are rational - we think - so don't believe in magic. In fact emotions have a much stronger influence on our thinking that we assume. Knowing and accepting this would improve our potential significantly.  Emotions also have their logic, and we could use this logic.
