A method of methods

A really well trained and diligent IT management professional can or must(?) master a plenty of methods today.   (Here I use the word method in a broad sense; any mental tool, standard, methodology and theory with practical value is a method.)
Maybe we should construct a method of using methods. One solution could be the unified method. Candidates for unified method are ITIL, Cobit, ISO27001 and in my view Lean Six Sigma too. However the approach followed by LSS leads us to the next method of methods; the Toolbox. We have a set of tools which we can use professionally e.g. like a carpenter. For any task we choose the right tool. Then we could use a structured approach. It's very similar to the previous one with the difference that we structure the way we do our work and so the tools to. And don't forget the last one: the no nonsense approach. We always tackle the problems and don't wast our energies with tools which are never fully appropriate. What is the right approach? I think it's personal. And what is my approach? I will tell you next time.
